One of the first rules of GW is to only start a mission or quest if you know you have the time to complete it...more relevant to when you play with humans I guess, because it's just mad manners to leave with the line "sry guise mum sez its dinner time".
Explorable areas in Guild Wars aren't that big...It doesn't take long to walk back to where you were...and if you're vanquishing something, just make sure you set a good 2 hours aside for it.

In order for Anet to implement this change, it would require more resources, resources not used which spares us a monthly fee. Other MMOs remember your exact spot in an open persistant world because essentialy according the server when you log out your still just standing right there, albeit out of phaze. Trying the same thing with intances goes against the nature of the instanced zone.
I'm gratefull I can come back at all when I loose connection and start back up where I had just left off.

spare us a monthly fee??
their are games that are completely f2p that can afford an official board, a better decorated website, no lag, player stall that we can set up to sell things, to have the entire game persistent with a few instances.
AND TO REMEMBER WHERE YOU LAST WERE STANDING!!!!!

It's a minor inconvenience, at worst, and not worth the fuss.

They have them for the reasons I listed on the first page.

Ever tried just leaving Guild Wars up while you're off doing things?
In my case I have to get up about every 15 minutes to do this or that, and sometimes leave for 20 minutes or more. Most of the time if I'm in the middle of something, I just backtrack to an area I have already cleared and leave my heros and henchmen doing bored emotes.

I think we've all come to the same conclusion.
GW isn't the right game for you. You're free to leave.

Why that quest?
It's made up of smaller quests that you can do from nearby outposts. None of them require you to be in an explorable area for any great length of time.

Exactly.
I still fail to see warcrap's point about the Knowledgeable Asura quest.
I can only think of a handful of explorable areas which are not adjacent to an outpost, the majority of which are in Tyria, and have VERY few quests associated with them.
If the vanquishing argument is with places like Dragon's Gullet or the Arid Sea, where you actually have to go through other zones to get to them in order to vanquish, would it not be sensible to say "Excuse me, parents of mine, will you require me to vacate my PC within the next 2-3 hours?" before starting?
So what if other games allow you to log out wherever you like? Guild Wars isn't "other games". You play by the creators' rules. But ok, this is the suggestion forum, and it's a valid suggestion, but the arguments you put forward for such a change seem quite weak.

Waste of server resources, may be exploitable somehow (by leaving items behind etc), can be troublesome (what if you go offline after killing the big bad boss and you log back on when he's respawned?), and you shouldn't log off in the middle of something anyway, as previously stated.

So your now arguing that GW should have it because other games have it?
GW1 will not have it, ever, due to it being 99% instanced and it taking up resources ANET can not afford to waste on things like this.
GW2 will most likely have it, wait for that if you are so desperate for it.
I know that I have pretty much repeated posts by other people, but the only way your actually going to understand that this will never happen (in GW1 anyway) is by having it repeatedly drilled in to your tiny head.

Currently area and district are saved. This would require another 3 variables for place in the area.
I don't think it being impossible, but neither necessary.

I don't think so. What about people that want to get Survivor, and when they're about to die, they Alt+F4? Then they're screwed out of Survivor, because they can't reload into the town, but they load in the middle of a mob.
It would cost some serious money in storage and servers to keep track of where everyone was exactly in an explorable area.
Basically

People should try to stop and think for a second.
You really thing they will just throw players that have just loaded into the Jaws of the enemy? If they added suh feature to GW2, they would have to add also a leeway of time in wich you cannot attack or be attack, like many other games have, so you can move to a safer places or so.
On top of that, Alt-F4 to leave the game and prevent the consequences of a bad choice it's not something that I think that should be treated. It should have downsides.
Anyways, I think the OP is talking about GW1 towns and outposts only.

Also, what if you load up into the area, and you have a slower connection, and you die before you even load?
And what if you have a group of 8 people in an instance? Do you have to wait for all those people to try to log onto their characters at the exact same time before you can ever load that character again?

We are talking about a "real time" online game, if a "save" option was installed then the "real time" is gone it will be just another game where you can go back and load an old "save" when it suits you.
